Benefits of Dental Implants
What kinds of problems could arise if you don’t have your missing teeth replaced? Think about it this way. If you have a box of soda cans in the refrigerator and you pull one, the rest of the cans will shift to fill in the space left behind. When a tooth or several teeth are removed from your mouth, the same thing happens. Other teeth shift, creating gaps and spaces in other areas. This changes your bite, affecting not just your appearance but the actual function of your mouth. Traditional tooth replacement options prevent this shifting, but they don’t replace the lost tooth roots, leaving your smile open to some oral health concerns like diminished bone and soft tissue. Dental implant supported restorations are the only solution available that delivers flawless, long last results from the roots up. Some of the many benefits of dental implant-retained restorations include the following:
- Longevity – implant supported replacement teeth can last for three decades or longer
- Stability – self-supporting implant replacement teeth recreate lost tooth structure, function, and stability
- Cosmetic – once in place, your implant supported dental crown, bridge, or denture will look and function just like your natural smile
- Hassle-free – you can brush teeth as usual and eat all of your favorite foods with total confidence that your implant-retained restoration will stay firmly in place
Indications for Dental Implants
Dental implants utilize screws implanted into the jaw bone to hold replacement teeth in place. Dr. Claire Hightower at Ambiance Dental Spa will provide you with the dental implant restorations (the replacement teeth) once your implants have been placed. For patients in Bowie, Maryland and beyond, this can be a wonderful way to bring a broken smile back to full function. Depending the number and location of missing teeth, we’ll recommend one of the following treatment options:
Missing One Tooth
Following the loss of a single tooth, we can use one dental implant post to replace the tooth’s root. Then, we create a custom dental crown that will be fitted over the top of the dental implant.
Missing Multiple Teeth
If you’ve lost two or more teeth in a row, an implant supported fixed bridge will seamlessly bridge the gap in your smile. A row of fused together replacement teeth will be anchored on both sides by a dental implant. For more advanced loss of both consecutive and nonconsecutive teeth, an implant retained partial denture may be a better option. A gum colored base material is molded to fill the gaps in the smile and support several replacement teeth. Depending on the number and location of the missing teeth, a partial denture may be supported with two to four implant posts.
Missing All Teeth
Following complete tooth loss, we can create an implant supported full denture. Full dentures like partials are crafted using a gum colored base material to support an entire row of replacement teeth. Depending on the natural size and shape of the patient’s jaw line and the materials used to craft the denture, four to six dental implant posts may be used to support the prosthetic.
Understanding the Cost of Dental Implants
The cost of dental implant tooth replacement will vary from patient to patient because no two cases are exactly alike. Some of the factors that impact your treatment budget include:
- Number and location of missing teeth
- Number of implants used
- Material used to craft dental implants and replacement teeth
- Need for preparatory treatments like tooth extractions and tissue grafts
- Use of dental sedation to maintain comfort
During your tooth replacement consultation, we’ll review all aspects of your treatment plan, their costs, available dental insurance coverage, and your estimated out of pocket cost. It is our goal to help patients prepare for covering the costs of their tooth replacement plan, so there are no unnecessary financial surprises along the way.
